Product Description:
Heat-shrinkable materials are made up of two components: an external backing composed of extruded and cross-linked polyolefin, and an internal adhesive made of thermoplastic materials. When the backing is heated, it shrinks and creates a level of circumferential compression in the coating. This compression supplements the bonding of the sleeve to the pipe joints surface.
Heat-shrinkable sleeves are a tough field-joint coating system. In fact, they are considered to be one of the toughest field-applied coating systems available. The coating system is made up of a high-performance epoxy that is solvent-free, an adhesive base copolymer, and modified cross-linked polyethylene. The design of the coating system is to replicate the structure and meet the performance of mil-applied three-layer PE coatings. These coatings are compatible with all commonly used pipe coatings, including polyethylene, coal tar enamel, and fusion-bonded epoxy.

Before use, ensure that you fully mix the two components of the epoxy primer. It is essential that the mixing is thorough in order to obtain the desired result. Once the mixing is complete, apply the primer to a minimum thickness of 150 µm, covering at least 10 mm of the adjacent coating. Remember to only mix the amount of primer that can be applied within the pot life to prevent any wastage.
While the epoxy primer is still wet, apply the sleeve; ensure that the adhesive has been heated before application. Once the sleeve is wrapped around the desired area, heat the closure patch and apply it. After the closure patch is applied, the whole sleeve should be heat-shrunk to fit tightly around the joint.
Post heating can be used to soften the sleeve and to remove any trapped air. This will significantly improve the final result; however, be careful not to overheat the area, as this can damage the materials used.
